ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN INDUSTRY AND AGRICULTURAL-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX", FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, Kiev, September 4-5, 2014

05.09.2014

From Sept. 4 till Sept.5, 2014 in the Conference Center of "President Hotel", Kiev hosted the First International Conference "Energy efficiency in industry and agricultural-industrial complex."
According to the information of organizers:

The conference focused on the key issues of energy efficiency and resource-saving in Ukraine and in the world.

Now Ukraine enters a new phase of development that presumes adapting to progressive world requirements, norms and standards. On the first positions come issues of energy efficiency, resource-saving and environment protection, without which it is impossible to ensure competitive manufacture, and as a result, valuable presence of Ukrainian enterprises in the world's leading markets. In these circumstances the creation of a separate professional business area is becoming relevant, where representatives of industrial companies, manufacturers of technologies and equipment, public and academic organizations, public authorities and international financial institutions will be able to forge a mutually beneficial dialogue in the light of current vector of development.

The key issues of the Conference were as follows:

  • Situation with energy-effectiveness and economy of resources in Ukraine and in the world;
  • Innovative solutions for leading branches of Ukrainian industry and agricultural-industrial complex;
  • Experience of introduction of energy-effective and resource-saving real projects in different economy sectors of Ukraine, European countries, USA, China and Japan;
  • Financial and legal instruments for the implementation of projects of energy-effectiveness and resource-saving;
  • Government support and implementation of State program on energy-effectiveness for the years 2010-2015, as well as indices of National plan of actions up to the year 2020. World experience.

Business program of the Conference consisted of 4 sections:

  • School of energy-effectiveness (general questions of energy-effectiveness);
  • Mining and metallurgical complex and machine building;
  • Agricultural-industrial complex and chemical industry;
  • Power engineering and transport.

At a plenary meeting statements were made by leading scholars and experts who shared their experience in implementing innovative solutions for industries and agricultural-industrial complex.

At the plenary sections was studied the experience of implementing real projects of energy-effectiveness and resource-saving in different sectors of economy of Ukraine, EU member states, USA, China and Japan. Projects of alternative energy sources were considered as well.

A high score has got a project on the reduction of energy costs in the production of metal products at "Zaporizhstal" iron & steel works.

In the course of Conference the discussions of goals took place which EU has put to itself in its "20-20-20" strategy by the year 2020:

  • to decrease emissions of carbon dioxide by 20 percent,
  • to increase the quota of alternative energy sources up to 20 percent in general structure of energy consumption,
  • to increase energy-effectiveness by 20 percent.

Unfortunately, Ukraine is in a very difficult situation in this sphere now. Gas prices have risen considerably in 2009 and now in Ukraine they are among the largest in the world. Besides, taking into account very high degree of deterioration of equipment and energy intensity in the country as a whole, the prices for electricity, heating and water will have to rise further and could lead to irreversible processes in whole sectors.

But at the same time, Ukrainian market of energy-effectiveness and energy saving is one of the most promising in terms of investments and works. By estimations of different experts, in order to achieve European energy-effectiveness it is necessary to invest from 10 to 100 billion US dollars in the specific projects and technologies.

The Conference was held with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The Conference was attended by experts of Saturn ® Data International Company.
